Our Vision

Rescuers as innovators.

Pawsitive Tails to Remember is a non-profit, no-kill, volunteer dog rescue organization serving the Southwest. We are dedicated to rescuing dogs left homeless for whatever reason – dogs in public shelters where they are at high risk of euthanasia due to pet overpopulation, dogs given up by their owners because of difficult circumstances, dogs abandoned in Kennels, Vets and Fosters, and those in danger of abuse or neglect.

We place dogs in loving, responsible, committed permanent homes. PTR follows a comprehensive adoption process which includes taking considerable care in finding good matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a dog into their homes and lives. As one of the only rescues in Southern California that will send dogs out of state, we have developed a robust out of state network within the rescue community to make out of California state adoptions viable and safe. We maintain our name on the dog’s microchip for life, so that a safety net will always be there for them if they are in need again.

Animals in our care are spayed or neutered, receive all appropriate veterinary care and treatment, and placed in nurturing foster homes while they await placement in their permanent homes. Many of our dogs endure extensive physical rehabilitation or surgeries before placement in their forever homes. Those needing extensive behavior modification do kennel while working one on one with Trainers. Our Trainers are selected specifically for their experience with shelter dogs, their decompression and many behavioral concerns. We assist dogs in distress without regard to age, breed or ease of placement. PTR invests in great measure in the best of innovative tests to identify their medical needs, and in their quality nutrition and supplements while they are in our care. We believe strongly that the quality of what is fed to a dog has results in their healing and their happiness. To the extent our finances allow, dogs in the greatest need take priority, and therefore our reputation has been built on servicing the many Senior, Special and Behavioral Needs dogs surrendered to shelters as our primary focus.

We are determined to keep administrative expenses extremely low so that virtually every dollar taken in goes directly to the care of the animals. To this end, our concentration is to source untapped resources of funding not generally utilized by the rescue community. Our group remains interested in and committed to the welfare of the dog beyond the adoption process. Our follow up and extension of our rescue’s resources for additional training, veterinary pricing reductions, guidance with regard to health and supplements  to our adopters has fostered long term relationships and tracking of our dogs.

Finally, we strive to work with area shelters, independent rescuers, other rescue and humane organizations to develop a network of supporters and volunteers in order to create a better world for homeless pets.
